Thefts and losses: Passports
Then go to your embassy. Thefts and losses: Traveller's cheques
Thefts and losses: Credit cards If you lose your credit card, block it immediately by calling the international toll free number for your card. The line is operational 24/7 and will be answered by an English speaking operator who will block your card and, if necessary, send you a replacement. Report the loss of your card to the Italian public security authorities. This is just as important and should be done immediately after blocking it by phone. Make the report to the Carabinieri or the Polizia (see above).
Then file a police report as above. Don't Panic! If you arrive at the airport and you baggage has not been sent to the baggage reclaim, you should go to
the lost and found office of the airport. At Leonardo da Vinci airport in Fiumicino, as well as G.B. Pastine in Ciampino, this office is near the arrival lounge at the baggage reclaim. TIP: Watch out for pickpockets, including children, in busy tourist areas and while using public transport. Never carry cash in your pockets and try and secure backpacks in some fashion. Be very careful of people asking for money in a crowded street with pieces of paper or newspapers in front of them. It's not as bad as it sounds but it is better to be safe than sorry. |
