How to use a phone (Tip: worth the read)

Telephones that take coins have become very rare in Italy. You can find them in Termini station, in some bars, hotels and metro stations. Otherwise you need to buy a phonecard L5,000 (Euro 2,58) - 10,000 (Euro 5,16) - L15,000 (Euro 7,74) available in any tabacchi, post office, most newsstands and some bars. Remember that even the local calls are timed; so if you are using coins be sure to put enough money. (A short local call is usually L200).

If you are dialing a number that begins with 0338 0330, 0347, 0335, 0339, 0368, etc, you are calling a telefonino ("a small phone" or cell phone). Just be warned that it can cost an arm and a leg to have even a 2-minute conversation!
